SHERPA GROWS WINGS

Like many South African companies, Sherpa has its eye on offshore markets. But how is it going? And where is it going?

One of Sherpa’s key clients is an offshore account, with PR, website development, SEO and design forming core services over the last 3 years or so. More recently, Sherpa took on the client’s Content Marketing management, including Twitter.

This week, Sherpa was presented to the associates of Southampton strategy company, LD Strategy. The view is that LD Strategy, a well-established company, offers Sherpa’s brand, design and communication services to its clients and associates, also managing the client relationship in the UK.

Obviously the favourable exchange rate is playing a strong role but, at a certain level, there is a sufficiently large price differential between London and Cape Town prices to make a relationship viable for all parties concerned.

“Irrespective of any price advantage, you need to focus on value – good price and great work. Credibility is also important – in most instances, we’ve been introduced by parties who know us well. In the case of LD Strategy, I’ve known Laurence Dann – their founder and CEO – for many years,” says Sherpa CEO Gary Hendrickse.

“We have clients in Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Namibia as well – we don’t see them every day either and much of our communication is done via phone, email and skype. It’s not much different dealing with UK clients. There’s a small time difference, language is obviously English and most of the people we deal with have visited Cape Town, so they can relate easily enough. Possibly the most rewarding aspect of working offshore accounts is the realisation that your work is of international standard,” says Gary.

In conjunction with associates, Sherpa is hoping to soon announce the signing of a large scale development project for an international leader in its field.
